A Family Restaurant Built on Fresh Food and Honest Hospitality
STAY N SPICE opened its doors on September 21, 1986, in San Antonio, Texas, with a simple idea: cook honest, handcrafted meals with fresh ingredients and treat every guest the way you would treat someone in your own home. It began as a small, independently owned restaurant run by a family who believed that good food and genuine care for people go hand in hand.
In the early years, the founders spent long hours in the kitchen, sourcing ingredients from local markets and adjusting recipes until each dish felt right. There was no shortcut to that process — just patience, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn from every service. Word slowly spread through the neighborhood, and families began returning not only for the food, but for how welcome they felt walking through the door.
As San Antonio grew, so did STAY N SPICE. The restaurant expanded its dining space, updated its kitchen, and introduced new seasonal dishes over the years, but the core approach never changed: fresh ingredients, made-to-order meals, and a team that genuinely enjoys hosting people. Today, the restaurant remains a single-location, independently owned business — not a franchise — still run with the same hands-on care it had in 1986.
Local families, downtown professionals, and travelers passing through San Antonio have become part of the STAY N SPICE story over nearly four decades. We don't claim to be the biggest restaurant in the city, and we're not trying to be. Our goal has always been simpler: consistent quality, fresh food prepared with care, and a dining room that feels like a place you can return to again and again.
